Lyric Theater

Project Summary

This project was a complete, three-phase renovation of the 73-year-old Lyric Theater located in the heart of downtown St. Paul, Virginia. The existing structure, originally opened in 1950, had remained vacant for several years prior to the start of work. Phase 1 was utilized to complete structural repairs and modifications to allow the aging structure to be brought up to current code requirements. This phase also included façade repairs and improvements to the exterior envelope of the building. Phase 2 included new mechanical and electrical systems as well as new restroom facilities. This phase also included repairs to the stage and installation of auditorium seating. The final Phase 3 included completion of the mechanical and electrical systems, including sound and lighting systems as well as other stage equipment. This phase also included a new two-story meeting room, completion of the stairs and balcony, and new finishes throughout. This final phase was substantially complete in early 2023, allowing for a ribbon cutting ceremony to take place on January 4th. The completed Lyric Theater has seating for approximately 200 guests for the performing arts venue and has additional meeting spaces for conferences and private events. Quesenberry’s Construction acted as the General Contractor for all three phases of this project.
